New Year, New Opportunities

Ah, February. The month of Valentine's Day, Three day weekends, and 28 freezing days. Instead of doing an annoying January New Year's post, I decided to wait a month and see what has actually changed this year.

1. I started working out more consistently. I went to 2 hot yoga classes and quickly discovered they are not for me. I go to the gym in my apartment complex at least three times a week, and when I cannot get myself to the gym, I work out in my room.

2. I stopped going out to eat as often as I was. Towards the end of December, I was eating fast food at least three times a week. This was not only unhealthy on all fronts, but also became very expensive.

3. I cancelled Amazon Prime. Who would have guessed that you can actually save a ridiculous amount of money by not shopping online... Probably everyone, but here I am.

4. I cancelled nearly all of my monthly subscription services. I completely changed my way of consuming products. I now have a stitch fix account which sends me outfits every other month, and I get to choose what I keep. I also have my contacts sent to me every 54 days, so I have to wear my glasses more, but I am able to save money on that expense. I used to subscribe to MeUndies because the quality of their products was amazing. Now I just order when necessary, which has saved me tons!

5. If I am not working, I am spending quality time with people. I call my parents, sit and chat with my housemates, call a close friend, write letters, etc. I no longer go to target because I am bored, nor do I go grocery shopping without a list and budget number at the top.

6. I started defending myself. I started working for a school district which has been a mix of emotions. I was originally told I would be contracted, but because of the slow pace for finger prints and a lack of funds in the budget, I was left being paid minimum wage at a job that was extremely taxing. It taught me a lot, but at the end of the day, I need to pay bills. I had to talk to my HR and explain the situation, and was immediately made a substitute teacher which pays way more. Two years ago, I would have burned the bridge and walked away, vowing to never work for a school again. This is ridiculous. 23 years has taught me to speak up and fight for my worth in all situations.

7. I realized I actually really like communications work. Maybe a masters in communication is in store... We will see.

I guess these are things to tell my next therapist.

Sincerely,

Naomi

Who would have thought it would be so difficult to get a job at the entry level? I have applied to approximately 45 jobs since September...
